Edmund Velasco


Edmund is a professional musician. He leads his own quintet, which has recorded three CDs, and is a member of the Estrada Brothers Latin Jazz Sextet and the Chris Williams Sextet. He has worked with such jazz greats as Joe LaBarbara, Tony Dumas, Louis Conte, Ramon Banda, and many others. Edmund's first work with LBSC was arranging the traditional music in As You Like It. He has since arranged music for The Taming of the Shrew, composed new music for Antony and Cleopatra, Cyrano de Bergerac, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Richard III. For The Merchant of Venice, Edmund composed original music and, in collaboration with Melissa Miller, wrote lyrics for two of the songs. Last summer, he composed music and wrote lyrics for LBSC's Comedy of Errors and Romeo and Juliet. Last Christmas, Edmund's arrangements of traditional carols were among the highlights of The Wakefield Second Shepherds Play. As Music Director for LBSC, he also researches music for recorded pre-show and intermission lobby breaks, coaches the vocalists, and teaches the actors how to play various instruments.
